Jack Leunissen started and managed the bioinformatics and genomics section of the Dutch National Centre for Bioinformatics and Cheminformatics, CAOS/CAMM Center from 1986 on. In 2002 he moved to Wageningen University to take up the chair in Bioinformatics and head of department of the Laboratory of Bioinformatics.
He has been the project coordinator of EC-funded 4FP and 5FP projects for EMBnet (ERBBIO4-CT96-0030, QLRI-CT-2001-01363), was a member of the Education & Training Program for many years, and was chairman of the EMBnet Executive Board for 6 years. He has over 20 years of experience in teaching bioinformatics in over 100 courses, as well as some 50 international one-week training courses all over the world.

Jacques van Helden manages the Laboratoire de Bioinformatique des Génomes et des Réseaux (BiGRe) which is specialised in the development, evaluation and application of bioinformatics approaches for the analysis of genome, transcriptome, proteome and metabolism. With other members of his group, he teaches a range of related graduate courses. BiGRe will soon become the Belgian node for EMBNet whose commitment in education in bioinformatics has been known for 20 years. The expertise of BiGRe matches exactly the requirements for developing eBiomics, in particular for extending e-proxemis to transcriptomics and metabolomics.

Jean Sylvestre is a new media consultant and designer. He is a specialist in online media positioning, repositioning and design. His is an expert in new media training, knowledge-sharing systems design and customer relation analysis, combined with a 23 years experience in digital publishing. He founded SDC, in 1989, and manages the company since its creation.

Her group develops proteomics software and databases, in particular the renowned Melanie 2-D gel electrophoresis analysis software and the SWISS-2DPAGE database. Further development of tools is currently underway for the identification and characterisation of proteins using mass spectrometry. The group is co-responsible for ExPASy, the world's first Web site dedicated to protein molecular biology.

Pascale Berthault is a multimedia project manager and designer with 19 years of experience in multimedia project management,content design, and ergonomics, from CD-ROMs to web sites. She also has a 10 year experience in the creation and teaching of multimedia training programmes.

Grégoire Rossier has acquired an extensive experience in training and e-learning in bioinformatics, during the 5 years he worked at Geneva Bioinformatics (GeneBio) SA. In the SIB, he is presently in charge of the ExPASy helpdesk, and participates in developing educational programmes in the PIG group.

Jean-Pierre Kraehenbuhl is the executive chief officer of the Foundation. He is emeritus Professor at the University of Lausanne and a member of EMBO. He is the scientific co.-founder of OroVax, now Acambis, Ltd. He has created the Health Sciences eTraining (HSeT) Foundation and is the project leader of the web-based learning projects Immunology Online and Oncology Online, and co-leader of OCTAVE, the Online Collaborative Training of AIDS Vaccine Evaluation.

Nathalie Debard received a PhD. in immunology in 1996 from the University of Chatenay–Malabry (France) and completed a post-doctorate in the laboratory of Jean-Pierre Kraehenbuhl at the Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research (ISREC; Epalinges, Switzerland).
She is now a project coordinator for Immunology Online and the eLearning coordinator of a novel International Master of Infectious Diseases (IMID). She participates in teaching activities at the University of Lausanne, at the Swiss Institute of Technology (EPFL) and in training sponsored by the World Health Organization.

Marc BREITLER received in 1993 a MS in mathematics at the Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne (Switzerland). He then conducted a research projects at EPFL and for private companies. Since 1998, he developed web applications (content management system), and data bases for academic and private organizations. In 2009 he obtained the Microsoft MCPD certificate for developers and in April 2009 he joined HSeT. He is responsible for running and developing CMS and LMS technical solutions for HSeT eLearning biomedical activities.

Alain Meystre was trained as a silk screener. He worked in companies as industrial designer. In 2005 he joined the HSeT eLearning team as a Animation Designer in charge of 2D and 3D animations.

Bernard Rossier. emeritus Professor and former Director of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology and former Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne, is presently leading a research group working in the field of hypertension. He is recipient of many international Prizes in the field of nephrology. He is a member of EMBO, the Academia Europaea, the deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina, and is a Foreign Honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is Dr. honoris causa of the University Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris. He is member of the Louis Jeantet Foundation in Geneva and the Cloetta Foundation in Zurich.

Michelle ROSSIER received an M.D. from the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) and completed a MD thesis medical Department of Physiology of the University of Geneva. After a postdoctoral research fellowship, she held an assistant research physiologist position at the Department of Physiology, University of California, San Francisco. She then returned to the Institute of Pharmacology at the University of Lausanne, where she became a "maître assistant". From 1977 to 2006 she was Director of the clinical laboratories of Hematology, Clinical Chemistry and Microbiology at the Hospital of Morges, Switzerland. In 2001 she held the same position with Viollier Inc., one of the largest private clinical laboratories in Switzerland. She joined the HSeT core team in February 2006 to become a project coordinator for several HSeT projects.

Pascal Py received a diploma in engineering in 1987 from the Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Tarbes (France), specializing in management-information systems. He completed an Executive MBA at the Ecole Supérieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales (ESSEC) and, since 1996, has been active in the eLearning field. At the Centre National d'Enseignement à Distance (CNED), he developed a Virtual Campus (www.campus-electronique.tm.fr) that offers many distance learning courses.
Since 2001, he has managed various biomedical eLearning projects as well as the development of the learning-management system that is used by several Swiss universities, ISREC, and the HSeT Foundation (Epalinges). He left HSeT on October 31, 2010.

Laurent RICHARD was trained as an architect designer. He then moved to Los Angeles where he got acquainted with recording and sound engineering. After 18 months he returned to Switzerland and worked as a webmaster in a local publisher. He joined the eLearning core team in June 2002 as an Animation & a Web Designer. He left HSeT on September 30, 2010.

Yan CORNEILLE received an MS in computer engineering from the University of Tours (France). Since 1999, he is involved in developing eLearning platform solutions and operating LMS for the Centre National d’Enseignement à Distance (Poitiers, France) and then for the University of Zurich (Switzerland). Since 2004, he is responsible for running and developing LMS technical solutions for HSeT eLearning biomedical activities. He left HSeT on December 30, 2008.

Guilherme Marson was trained as an organic chemist. In 1999, he shifted his interest towards the development of educational software. In 2003 he obtained a PhD at the University of São Paulo (Brazil) on biochemistry education. This work yielded instructional software on chromatography, protein structure, and molecular biology, the former developed in collaboration with Donald Voet (University of Pennsylvania). He received two awards in 2004 and 2005 from the Brazilian minister of education. He is also serving as a referee for the science education community and he is participating in pedagogical training on the development and the application of technology in education.Guilherme Marson returned to Brazil on August 2008 but continues to work for HSeT as a consultant.
